What level of cover do I need?
The levels of cover available are Comprehensive and Third Party fire and theft.
Comprehensive cover includes cover for any accidental own damage as well as Third party fire and theft.
Third Party Fire and Theft, covers damage to the third party of an accident if you are at fault, cover for the vehicle if it goes on fire and cover for Theft of the vehicle.
Will my No Claims Bonus be affected if I make a claim?
If you make a claim on your policy your no claims bonus may be affected. It depends if you have step-back or full no claims bonus protection.
Full No Claims Bonus Protection:
This will protect your no claims bonus discount if you have an accident, depending on the insurer, you can have up to 2 claims in a 3 year period without it affecting your No Claims Bonus.
Step-Back bonus protection:
This will partially protect your no claim bonus discount if you have an accident, depending on the insurer, they will reduce your no claims bonus from 50% to 20%, this means you don’t lose the entire bonus.
Does the value of my car affect my premium?
In general the value of your car will not affect your premium, if you vehicle is valued over €60,000, your premium may increase.
If you have an accident, the insurers will place a pre-accident value on your car. In general we advise to over estimate rather than under estimate the value of the car, as if it is underestimated they will use that value to settle a claim.
What benefits are available on my policy?
Breakdown assistance
Breakdown assistance is available on all comprehensive policies, the level of assistance varies, Homestart assistance is only available on certain policies.
Windscreen Cover
Windscreen cover is available on all comprehensive policies. Approved repairers are different for each insurer so give us a call if you are unsure of who your provider is. Windscreen cover is available as an extra on Third Party fire and Theft policies.
